Stamford, March 19, 2012 — Saks Fifth Avenue announces its First Annual Fairfield County, “Wings of Change” Spring Event with star-studded support from its co-hosts the Barnyard Group, GE Corporation, Marcia Selden Catering and Event Planning, UBS Corporation, and Cognizant to benefit Stamford’s Yerwood Center on Thursday, March 29, 2012, 9:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. Yerwood Center has served the Stamford-Fairfield County area for 65+ years providing youth in a diverse community with educational and personal development opportunities to empower and foster their potentials and contributions to society. Yerwood serves over 1200 families with case management and social service referrals. Its programs Teen Center (13-19), Yerwood Scholars Extended Day Program (K-5), Junior Leaders Middle School Articulation (6-8) and YES (Yerwood Educational Summer Camp (K-8) along with health fairs, community events, VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) reach over 7,000 individual throughout Fairfield County. A percentage of the day’s sales at the Wings of Change event will be donated to the Yerwood Center to support its programming.

The limited-seating “Fairfield County First Ladies” Education Day at Saks Fifth Avenue bears an amazing list of red carpet VIPs, keynote speakers and celebrity appearances. The education day will be presented by Saks, GE Corporation and UBS Corporation’s diversity director, Ci Ci Holloway.   The morning will included the presentation of the Dr. Joyce Yerwood “Lifetime-Maker Award” to Laurie Meadoff , currently CEO of actress Fran Drescher’s Cancer Schmancer and Dr. Judy Kuriansky, internationally known clinical psychologist, therapist, author, lecturer, humanitarian and journalist.

Ruma Bose, Author of Mother Teresa, CEO is the keynote speaker and will share on the demonstrated management and leadership principles which led Mother Teresa to creating one of the world’s largest and most successful organizations. She is the Barnyard Group’s thought-leadership ambassador.

Additional speakers include, Kathy Eldon, Never Given In! Creating the Life of Your Choice”, also words of Winston Churchill that provided inspiration for Great Britain during World War II. They also supported Kathy during major crises in her life-a divorce, devastating illness, and the tragic murder of her son, Dan Eldon, a Reuter’s photojournalist killed in Somalia in 1993. An acclaimed filmmaker and bestselling author Kathy tells her story on the new Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN): Extraordinary Moms, a documentary on the power of mothers to change our world, Julia Roberts, Rosie O’Donnell. Joy Rose, Founder of Museum of Motherhood NYC will speak on “The Value of a Woman”.   Leslie Singer, Fashion Guru, School of Visual Arts Brand and Fashion, lectures on “The Culture of Fashionable Branding and You”. Gina Otto, author and musician, shares on “Empowerment and Diversity”.

Attendees will be treated to three panels on the topics of: “Raising Digital Kids by Becoming an Internet Mom”, “Women’s Health and Wellness”   and “Your Kids and Today’s Entertainment”.            

The Saks Fifth Avenue fashion-filled evening event will begin when the clock strikes 6 p.m. The floor will be bustling with a fashion show premiering the Saks Fifth Avenue Spring collection featuring designs by Akris Punto, Armani, Max Mara, Elie Tahari, Burberry, Theory, Hugo Boss, Vince, Kay Unger, Designer Furs and more.  

The night will be rounded out with red-carpet celebrity appearances, signature cocktails, delicious menu, music, a unique silent auction item, along with a video appearance by Bloomberg’s Joe Franklin and a special appearance by the morning host for “Martha Stewart”, Brian Kelsey.
